This is only the 2nd subtitled movie I've watched from India (1st one Badhaai Do) and I'm pleasantly surprised by the tough storyline of this movie and all the actor's emotional performances to help tell the story. To be honest, the inclusion of a little song and dance in such a harsh subject movie is a bit new to me but it was still a very good movie to see even subtitled. For those that have not seen any Indian movies, go see this one. It's well done. You may want to sit up a little closer to read the subtitles easier. I will be keeping my eye out for other movies from India.

Plot summary
A little girl is sold to brothel of Rashmibai who is forcefully asked to enter the business of flesh trade.When the girl doesn't agree Rashmibai is finally forced to take help of Gangubai Kathiawadi.Gangubai Kathiawadi aka Ganga who wanted to be an actress and years back eloped to Bombay with her boyfriend Ramnik who sold her at brothel of Shelia Masi.Gangubai did not have option to return back and hence turned a prostitute but she gained respect from fellow women as she would be their main support to go against Sheila Masi.In coming times Gangubai bonds with Don Rahim Lala and develops a brotherly relationship with him.Gangubai is soon known as the mafia queen and wants better lives for women of her community.She decides to enter politics but has a powerful contender Raziabai opposite her.

This movie doesn't deserve 5 stars . It's a 10 on 10 . Alia Bhatt ,Vijay raz ,Ajay Devgn everyone just shines and Excel beautifully . I have always loved Alia's growth as an actor and she is one of the best we have . Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a maestro and he prooves it again. He beautifully paints the movie .I wish the people of this country grow up and get some brain and stop spreading unnecessary hate.
Finally koi dhang ki Hindi movie dekhi. Best movie of 2022.
Stellar performance by Alia Bhatt. She is one of a few actresses in Bollywood who are cute and talented at the same time… I don't remember a moment watching the movie where I felt cringe and felt like deleting it like I do with most of the Hindi movies these days… From the menacing brothel madam to bit-part players, everybody did great. 8/10
