Plot summary
This is a modern pirate story complete with a captain, a mutinous crew of outlaws, a princess, her wedding dress and untold riches. Only one thing is missing: the ship. According to legend, Vulchan, a 19th-century gypsy pirate, attacked three convoys laden with gold. He robbed them, sunk them and hid his treasure by the coast. Fast forward to present day. Captain Jack, an ex-con himself, leads a motley bunch of homeless outcasts—alcoholics and petty criminals—in a search for the hidden loot. But their hopes of riches and glory are threatened when the brother of the Bulgarian Prime Minister announces plans to build a new mega tourist resort by the Black Sea.

Different and intriguing
The film is a mix of documentary and semi-featured made with non-professional actors. I live 50 km. from place where it was shot - Karadere - one of the last wild places on the Black Sea coast. I find it difficult to determine what is the real fate of the characters is in the film, and what is artistic fiction - all is mixed and unusual. The film is slow and narrative at first but soon you are drawn into the stories of hermits who left civilization to look for treasure. It is worth seeing the film because of the visual art and the different view of the people's stories.
The Lavender Hill Mob meets Lord of the Flies
Lord of the Flies type existence on a Black Sea beach with a mob of would be pirates ever hopeful to find the hidden treasure left somewhere on in the bay by a real pirate of the Ottoman empire. The mob's sense of friendship and bonding is depicted affectionately and with humour. The members of the mob are bound together through their need to escape from the realities of the life off the beach and by the eternal hope and expectation that any day now they will find the gold that will transform their lives. So they dig and they plan how to spend the money. This wonderful story, beautifully told, seldom feels like a documentary. These are sympathetic characters faced with insoluble problems. Their escape from reality is only possible as long as they stay together.
