Betyder than the first

"The Shamer's Daughter II: The Sepaint Gift" is finaly in Danish Theaters! After four years the second instalment is on the big screen. Not to be confused by the title, this film skips book two and jumps right into the third book. I think that this is a logic idea and is in no means a bad descicion. Actually it's really great. Mixed acting, but good directing and suspense. The biggest complain I have is the music. There is little original music and oh how I loved the soundtrack for the first, I have to admit I missed new themes. Kappe Kaas seemed to be focused on the "Main Title" theme and two others. The villain is also pretty bad. It's not the same actor and it shows. But overall a fun fantasy flick with impressive visuals.

I would have loved to like this...

..as I enjoyed the first part, but the plain, shallow black and white script where the baddies are pure evil and the good ones are weak do-gooders is unbearable at times, and doesnt add to consistency. In a disney movie it would be ok and expected, in Star Wars we accept it (Darth Vader vs Luke &ObiWan..I add this as there is a line "I'm your father" so I couldn't resist) but not in an medieval meant to be authentic film like this.

As example the Yedi-like father lets a low life murderer life TWICE only to jeapardize his mission (&his life)..the wyrm has to do it instead.

Same lame writing in the first film when the weak prince didnt kill the evil lord, fled instead, and led to the populations utter misery..probably to make a second part...Etc etc

Good weaklings against strong evil Ones. Meh.

But, again...great acting, charismatic actors, awesome scenery (real and CGI), and of course..very nice Wyrms/Slangens! :)

The First Was Way Better

The books are all much better than the movies. However, I found the first movie enjoyable, and it introduced me to Lene Kaaberbøl's excellent writing, both her books for children & adults. The second movie is pretty bad. The script is so weak that I can't see the actors had much to work with. Worth watching for the gorgeous scenery and the excellent acting of Rebecca Emilie Sattrup, who plays the leading role of Dina. But definitely read the books. As mentioned in the first review, they skipped the second book, and with this extremely simplified second installment, you could say they skipped the third books as well!
